WEST HALLAM I
Location: Aspen, Colorado
General Contractor: Ward Page
Project Status: Completed Spring 2013
This West End residence has undergone a transformation from a dated mid 70’s ranch house to an elegant tribute to modern design. Connect One Design provided the same deliberate update to the landscape surrounding the house.
The owners of the home desired a simple, clean and serene aesthetic, a significant departure from the existing over-grown and fussy landscape. The new front entry to the house follows bold curves through a grove of new mature aspen planted with a low understory of sod and native vegetation. The strong verticality of this entry works as a counterpoint to the horizontal lines of the ranch-style house.
The rear yard of the house is a flexible entertaining space, utilizing the many large existing aspen trees to define outdoor “rooms.” This delineation of space allows the somewhat constrained area to gracefully accommodate outdoor grilling, dining, and lounging, a fire feature, and a hot tub. Light hardscape materials are offset with dramatic dark accents and a plant palate emphasizing textures, and shades of green and white.
The design process was completed entirely in 3-D to fully visualize the impact of design decisions on the intimate space, to ensure that the design optimized the view from the inside of the house, as well as maximizing the livability of the space. Changes made during design meetings could be reflected in the model in real-time, streamlining the design and feedback process, and ensuring the owner’s satisfaction with the final product.
